Description First Edition 12mo, [*]2, B-E4+8, F6, Lithograph portrait [foxed], iv, 108 pp, folding map, publisher’s cloth, blind-stamped decoration with title in gilt on front cover, expertly re-backed, old back laid down, , ink signature of “Dora(?) Clerk, 9th April 1852” and beneath in pencil “For Arthur Clerk from his Aunt Dora” on front fly, engraved ex libris of “Henry Genochio, C.B.E.” on front paste-down, a good copy.
Notes Rare. A well-written firsthand account of smuggling in nineteenth century Devon. Our copy has the very rare map, lacking in most copies; so rare in fact that it seems it was not available when a facsimile reprint was issued in 1964.
