Requête au Roi. Adressée à sa Majesté par M. de Calonne, Ministre d’Etat.
[London: T. Spilsbury, Snow Hill. ] 1787. 4to, [-]1, A-C4, D3, E-L4, *L- *****L4, ******L3, M-U4, X3, 1f, 131, 77 pp, printer’s imprint at foot of p.131, the second part entitled “ Eclaircissemens et Pieces Justificatives”, cont. marbled boards, calf spine, joints cracked.
Calonne was called in to take control of France’s financial affairs during the terrible crisis which preceded the Revolution. His audacious plan of reform might have succeeded had the king been wholeheartedly behind him. He was finally exiled in 1787 and the present work is a defence of his conduct while in office, written after he had fled to England, and published in London.
