Remarks on the Campaign of 1815, in the Netherlands. by Captain (now Major) Pringle, R.E., &c. Reprinted for Gratuitous Distribution by John Curling.
Hitchin: Printed by C. Paternoster, “Advetiser” Office, Sun Street, 1861. 8vo, 24pp, stab-stitched, orig. printed blue paper wrappers, small ink-stain to margin of upper wrapper and first 5 lls.
Curling explains in the Preface that he found Pringle’s Remarks printed in the Appendix to Walter Scott’s Life of Napoleon. After attempting unsuccessfully over the course of two years to obtain a copy of the original, he was finally put in touch with the author who explained that he had never published it, but sent the original manuscript to Sir Walter Scott. Curling is therefore printing a few copies “by way of rescuing Pringle’s fame as an Author, and his work from obscurity.”
