La Haye : Chez Henry van Bulderen... 1708. 12mo, [-]2, A-K12, L4, 6 full-page engravings, half-title and title in red and black, contemporary calf, 2-line fillet borders with fleurs-de-lys at corners and large armorial supra-libros in gilt on both covers, spine in 6 compartments, red morocco label in 2nd the rest with a fleur-de-lys, gilt a little rubbed, text somewhat browned with a dark watrstain through many upper margins, signature of “James Sullivan 1733” on front fly and “Marie Charretier” on half-title.

Philip V was the first Bourbon king of Spain, reigning from 1700 to 1724 and again from 1724 until his death in 1746. His reign, the longest in Spanish history, was marked by the War of the Spanish Succession, initiated by his ascension, which resulted in Spain losing territories in Europe. He was a grandson of Louis XIV of France and, though he had periods of mental instability, he and his second wife, Elizabeth Farnese, were influential figures in Spanish and European politics. In 1724 he had abdicated in favour of his son, but the latter died months later and Philip re-ascended the throne.
